Charity Finish

Wrapping up year end charity quilts, this orange/hot pink modern quilt was an exercise in an off-the-cuff design.  Looking through my strips, I realized there was an abundance of oranges in the 4 1/2" Box.  The modern triangle fabric had a variety of oranges and hot pinks, so it worked perfectly for the zig zag accents.  From piecing to binding, this 48" X 60" quilt was done in 2 days.

Our Cane Cutter Quilt Guild's Helping Hands program, provides quilting comfort to several organizations.  This year, we were able to provide each child of the Louis Children’s Crisis Center a lap quilt and extra for the turnover of additional incoming residents.  This center offers therapeutic shelter for abused and neglected children.

Rainbow Triangles and Easter BOM

March is over and so are the greens -- there is not even a dent in my green scraps!  

Also, our local quilt guild continues with the calendar themed Block of the Month.   "April Showers" requires only an umbrella -- that's it --- but we are then challenged to embellish the umbrella as much as we want.   Celebrating Easter and the rainbow of colors (blue, purple, green and a little April yellow), I'm delighted to share my BOM.  My poor yellow rabbit is a little see-thru; but still cute. I traced a piece of marshmallow rabbit and then ate it. YUM!

Green Rainbow Blocks and BOM

Adding green to the stash of 12" Rainbow Stars is delightful -- the colors are playing so well together.  

In addition, our guild has a calendar themed Block of the Month, which makes this "Lucky Clover" so appropriate as extra green eye candy.  We donate our blocks for the year and assemble them into charity quilts.

"Short Stack" Finish

My favorite GO-TO pattern, Short Stacks by Black Cat Creations was the perfect size for my third throw for our Guild's goal to finish 80 quilts and donate them to the Ronald McDonald Home, with St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Black and White Finish

Another Friday Finish to share...the second quilt finished for our Guild's goal to donate 80 quilts to St. Jude's Ronald McDonald's Home for Christmas.  The pattern came from our guild's Block of the month ("Propeller").

It was my chance to use a Black/Gray/White variegated thread I picked up at the Houston Show several years ago. 

For the back, I used a safari fabric....just right for a young boy.

Have Faith Quilt Finish

Our quilt guild, Cane Cutters, recently selected the Ronald McDonald Home, with St. Jude's Children's Hospital as recipients of 80 quilts for Christmas 2017.  "Have Faith" was specifically  designed for charity quilts. This is my first finish....with hopes for a couple more.

A larger Pink and White version was made last month for a Breast Cancer Awareness Fund Raiser.  This turned out to be very simple pattern for a throw size.

Quilt Finish, Cranston Panel

Our local quilt guild challenge for 2017 was to use any panel in any quilted project.  I knew exactly what I would use...a Cranston Print from the 1980's.  It was part of our mother's fabric stash when she passed away in 1987.

The panels were a little wonky, so I decided to add a few strips to frame then straighten them.  To accent the birds, I added a few filler blocks I made a while back (nothing like using leftovers)...from a book called "Link to the 30s". The other reason the filler blocks were perfect...the background fabric matched the panel.

I snapped a picture as it came off the quilting frame, because I could see the quilting texture.

After the binding was done, a quick picture outside.  Its a small quilt and will be hung somewhere in my bedroom....I think our mom would be pleased I finally used the panel.

Scrappy Hump Day

Progress!  Quilted and binding in progress, this girly little scrap quilt is ready donation to our Guild's Helping Hands Program. Finished at 60" X 76. (8" squares, 2" border)

Below is the same pattern and same size that is almost done (just one more seam and the border)...... but this is for a young boy.  Our local guild provides quilts for a few non-profits, however the MacDonell's Children's Services receive the bulk of the quilts. This organization serves youth who are placed in their care due to neglect, abuse and/or abandonment.

Don't Adjust Your Screen, Shimmering Triangles

 This Batik Blur is for the 2014 Relay For Life, here in Terrebonne Parish.  Some time ago, I saw a similar quilt on Pinterest.  I searched and searched for a pattern, then gave up and drew one up myself.  I have no clue if my version is close to the original, but I like it.  Update:  The pattern is called Shimmering Triangles, by Jenny Bowker.  I was thrilled to find the designer, and have since purchased the pattern - love this design and have already made another version.

The project was originally started for our One Fabric Challenge.  I quilted swirls and feathers all over with a  "Blue Jean Gold" thread.

Carol's Dream

Every year, a challenge to make a quilt from the "same fabric" brings out the most diverse and beautiful quilts.  For the 2013/2014 Challenge, a golden batik (see border above) was chosen.  A wonderful surprise, Carol (top right) made her challenge quilt from my "Kristy's Dream" pattern.  The quilt was designed for Moda's Bake Shop a few years ago and is still available.  

A special thanks to Mary Lea who hosted the challenge and kept us motivated all year.  Below is the group shot!

Guild Challenge Finish

Last Friday, we had our annual guild Christmas Party. It was so nice to be able to visit and meet new quilters. I don't get to go very often to the meetings because of my job, however I try to always make to special dates.

Within the group, we have little bees and challenges. Each year a fabric is chosen which we buy and challenge ourselves to make a quilt-type project. The project is then revealed at the Christmas Party. Here is mine -- all done, finished at 60 x 60. And the back below, where I used up the orphan blocks made from the scraps HST's. Because I used a very simple pattern with large blocks -- I feather quilted all over.

It is not too late for me to link up at Sarah's "Confessions of a Fabric Addict", so I am heading over there right now.

VERY IMPORTANT -- Judy Laquidera has opened pre-orders for her new quilt book, "Sixty Pieced Quilt Borders". My Christmas present is now ordered!!!!

"The DJ Quilt" for the Fourth of July!

Carolyn finished her "DJ Quilt" just in time for the Fourth of July weekend. A very lucky soldier will be receiving this quilt very soon. Notice the quilting? She does this awesome work on her home machine! Carolyn added a border to the pattern, for her own version -- I guess I will be pulling fabric for my next one soon AND it just may have a border!

Friday Sharing

A few quilts from our local guild workshop. Geralyn and her RWB Beauty! I have seen this pattern somewhere, and attempted to find the name and designer with no luck -- If I find it, I will update. Update: The Pattern is called Saddle Trap and was featured in the McCalls Quick Quilts Magazine, in October/November 2010 Issue. I also found the pattern designer's Blog -- I am now a new fan. Thanks to Anne and Wonky Girl finding the links.

Donna and Alice's strip quilts -- I loved these!

I am so proud -- recognize "The DJ Quilt". Marlene has finished and sandwiched this in record time! If you need a fast masculine quilt -- here is the pattern link. It is in PDF form - but if you are having trouble opening, send me an email (see profile for address) and I will send it to you.

Other ladies were working with this pattern at the workshop, so I hope to show other versions when they are finished. A few are very girly -- so it works for both boys and girls.

Alice is making "Stars over Scott" -- now my head is swelling. This pattern of course is named for my son Scott. Alice used her 5" charm squares, which produces a smaller version -- absolutely perfect.

And here is my project (at least the one I can share) -- it is the back of the Orange Monochromatic Challenge (hosted by Judy of Patchwork Times) I have been quilting on for over a week. If I would just dedicate time to quilting, it would be finished....however I keep getting side tracked with piecing a special little project.

Geralyn's Quilt

I am so proud to be part of the Cane Cutter Guild with very talented members. Geralyn made this awesome quilt, with the quilting done on her home machine. This was a perfect quilt to show off Geralyn's beautiful work.

I hope everyone is finishing up their projects and getting ready for family celebrations. I am done, so my quilting projects this week are just for fun --- and with a long weekend ahead, I will keep busy.

Finally -- I can Share!

Our local guild will be meeting at the end of this week! Within our guild, I belong to a couple of little side bees. One, we play along with the reality show "Survivor". The other, is the "Fabric Challenge Bee". A year ago, our Bee Leader Mary Lea found the fabric from a Jackie Robinson collection and our challenge was to use the fabric in a quilty project. The big reveal is this week, so I feel safe showing you some of the work in progress. This year, my project gave me a chance to clean out the purple, lavender and fushia stash. Other than the "challenge" fabric, I did not buy anything.

As we approach the holidays, most of my projects are of the secret nature. BUT, I will show as much as possible, without spilling any beans.

Fall Block Lottery

Today is our Guild Meeting -- I just wish I could stay. I will be popping in to drop off my Lottery Block above, a 10" Fall log cabin block, with the cheddar center.

Our Fall 2010 Survivor Bee has also started -- we are each assigned a player from the TV's Survivor Reality Show. The first one eliminated won a floral FQ from each of us. The last one standing will win a near solid fabric (each of us has been assigned a color) and the runner-up -- a block made by each of us.
