Small Finishes

This year, I have made a personal goal to increase the number of charity children's quilts.  In addition to "Quilts For Kids"; I will be making quilts for the Petite Bijoux Project and Upside Downs.  

The mission of the Petite Bijoux Project is to provide parent care packages for preemies at the Terrebonne General Medical Center NICU patients.

"A Star is Born", finishes at 36" X 45" and uses black and white Kona with a dark gray (3 1/2" blocks) to make a popular Buffalo Print.  The addition of the star symbolizes the tiny, but mighty, preemie.

The mission of the Upside Downs, Inc. is to help the Down Syndrome community through new parent support, recreational activities, raising awareness and advocating for a brighter future.  The quilts received by Upside Down are part of care baskets gifted to new parents.   

My free block pattern, "Have Faith", was introduced in 2018 during Sarah's / Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Hands 2 Help Challenge.  Using nine (9) blocks, the Have Faith quilt below, finishes at 36" X 36".

Show and Tell, "Have Faith"

Sharing a finish made by friend Darla Chauvin, who used my pattern, "Have Faith", for someone who was recently diagnosed with cancer.  The Have Faith pattern was  introduced earlier this year on "Confessions of a Fabric Addict" during the 2018 Hands to Help Challenge.

Darla's color palette was selected for a masculine version and is simply stunning.  Thank you Darla for sharing.

I also recently came across another "Have Faith" quilt posted at "Selina Quilts", who made the quilt for a WWII veteran.  Thank you Selina for sharing your finish.

Hands2Help/Have Faith Pattern

It's that time of the year ... Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict is hosting her annual Hands2Help Charity Quilt.  This is her 8th year and the contributions are growing in numbers with the help of so many giving quilters.

Have Faith, Paulette's Retirement

Close to 28 years ago, Paulette and I began working together.  It's now her turn to begin a new journey -- RETIREMENT -- and spending more time with three little granddaughters!   When her retirement date was set, I knew the perfect pattern was "Have Faith", using colors and prints I hoped would match her perfectly.

Have Faith Quilt Finish

Our quilt guild, Cane Cutters, recently selected the Ronald McDonald Home, with St. Jude's Children's Hospital as recipients of 80 quilts for Christmas 2017.  "Have Faith" was specifically  designed for charity quilts. This is my first finish....with hopes for a couple more.

A larger Pink and White version was made last month for a Breast Cancer Awareness Fund Raiser.  This turned out to be very simple pattern for a throw size.

Ladies Night Out - 2017

Once a year, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Terrebonne General Medical Center, in Houma Louisiana hosts the "Ladies Night Out Gala", to raise funds and awareness.  This is the 5th year that I have donated a quilt representing breast cancer awareness.

For several years, I have been collecting "pink" fabric from every quilt shop that I visit, on-line shops and exchanges.  As a scrappy quilter, the larger the variety I can pull from, the happier I am with the outcome.

This year has touched my family directly, with my husband diagnosed with cancer and subsequently treated by Mary Bird Perkins.  When I started this in 2013, I never dreamed this would happen....which has made me more determined to submit the quilts annually.

"Have Faith" is the modern pattern above representing 2017.  Below are the previous years that quilts were donated.
