Rainbow Challenge - Dark Blue and QOV

The album blocks in dark blue are DARK!  They nest nicely with the red album blocks from a few months ago, as did the blocks below.  My B'Box (Box of Blocks) is starting to overflow; which is why I am starting to pull them out and play.

"Freedom Flying" will be donated as a Quilt of Valor:  The framing of the double HST has completely changed the look -- I tried twisting and alternating the double HST and still came back to them facing in all one direction.  I can see this representing military planes flying.

Love Handles - Scrap Attack Update

The blocks are sewn together and the first border is added.   The designer, Judy Dohrman (Black Cat Creations), used one fabric for her large border, however I'm choosing  to go with a piano key border.  The border will be the same size as the pattern.  All of the strip sets are done, so by next week, the top will be done.

While sewing the miles of strip sets, I pieced together "Quilts for Kids" using 6 1/2" squares.  I had enough fabric to make two of the colors above and a third is almost done.   This project has been adopted by our guild, using our own stash or kits provided by QFKs.  I then sew together 3 backs and load them on the long arm for quick quilting.

Dark Blue Stars, B'Box Quilt Top

This week, I finished the dark blue stars. As fall approaches (even though it is still in the 90's down in south Louisiana), I am preparing for the assembly of charity quilts, pattern samples, gifts and quilted decorations.

Its also time to start pulling from my overflowing B'Box (a box of blocks).  Boys and girls have their Box of LEGO Blocks, quilters have their B'Box(es).  Randomly pulling and playing with blocks from a variety of shapes and colors is so satisfying ..... and sometimes .... those blocks never make it back into the B'Box.

From the B'Box to design wall:  dark red and blue expanded 9 patches and double half square triangles (half-framed).  A Quilt of Valor will be assembled by combining these two sets of blocks, then adding a couple of borders.

On Ringo Lake Quilt Finish

On Ringo Lake, the 2017-18 Mystery Quilt Designed by Bonnie Hunter, Quiltville, is done!

My color choices are red, gray and gold on a light background.  The border is a little different, because I no longer had enough large chunks of gray to follow Bonnie's pattern.

The quilting is a simple free-motion, edge to edge design of circles and swirls.

Love Handles - Scrap Control Update

Keep reading to the end -- there is a giveaway alert!  The Blocks and sashings are done.    The designer, Judy Dohrman (Black Cat Creations), used one fabric for her sashing, however I still needed to use up a box of strips, so I went very scrappy while maintaining Judy's size of sashing.
Next Wednesday's goal is to have the top sewn with borders.  Do I go scrappy???? --- maybe a piano key border.  We shall see.....  either way, I can't wait to have the top sewn for an OUTSIDE picture.  The indoor lighting just does not do the colors justice.

Show and Tell, "Have Faith"

Sharing a finish made by friend Darla Chauvin, who used my pattern, "Have Faith", for someone who was recently diagnosed with cancer.  The Have Faith pattern was  introduced earlier this year on "Confessions of a Fabric Addict" during the 2018 Hands to Help Challenge.

Darla's color palette was selected for a masculine version and is simply stunning.  Thank you Darla for sharing.

I also recently came across another "Have Faith" quilt posted at "Selina Quilts", who made the quilt for a WWII veteran.  Thank you Selina for sharing your finish.

Love Handles - Scrap Control Update

Almost done with the blocks...just four left of the total 24 needed.    The designer, Judy Dohrman, used one fabric for her sashing.  Since I have gone scrappier with the backgrounds of each block, I am heading in the direction of scrappy sashing.

Next Wednesday's goal is to have all the blocks and sashing together.  Then comes the auditioning of the borders.   Is it too soon to start thinking about my next scrappy project?  Maybe not, but I have just enough time to make one more before Bonnie Hunter's Mystery, which is always the ultimate scrap buster.

Summer Wedding Quilt - Show & Tell

It is always exciting to see someone making one of my patterns -- Summer Wedding, published by Black Cat Creations, has been very popular lately and I have permission to share four "Summer Weddings" by three quilters.

First up -- Susan Shaffer.  The Love Birds and Heart centered on the wedding gift made an elegant version.  Susan is a member of our local guild, so I was thrilled she selected this pattern.  Susan and her family own the Ardoyne Plantation here in Louisiana, therefore her eye for romantic southern charm is always reflected in her quilts.

Next we have Mihaela Moreno, who chose the scrappy version.  If you look close, there are pops of color all over.  On the close-ups, we can see the lovely swirls used in her quilting design.

The last two quilts were both made by Pamela Henya, a quilting celebrity, who is a Featured Quilter at the Heartland Kentucky Quilt show coming up this weekend in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.  Pamela also let me know she has a THIRD Summer Wedding in the works.  With her last name "Henya", I can see why she likes the "H's".

Love Handles - Scrap Control Update

Making progress on my "Love Handles" ... twelve done.  I like the way they look butted up against each other on the design wall; however the pattern has sashing that I like too.  I have some of the sashing pre-cut (scrappier version) and will wait until more blocks are done before adding them.

See you next Wednesday for an update to my endless supply of scraps.
