Red/White Finish

One of my favorite "Go To" Patterns for a Baby Quilt -- Licorice Whip is a geometric pattern that is great with 2 color quilts or scrappy.  I have made this in Gray/White/Yellow, Multi Color Batiks , large Queen Size in Red/Beige and the two shown on the pattern cover below.

Quilted Feathers and swirls -- perfect for a little girl.

Monday Blues.....

First, I have to admit....I am not a Football fan. However, our NOLA Saints were playing an important game yesterday.  I gathered all my chain piecing to finger press in front of the TV and keep my hubby company.  First half, it was not going well -- I felt like I had jinxed them (after all, I had not watched a game this season).   So I gathered up my little pieces and headed back to my sewing room.

During the game I added a few of the sashing units to the wall, just to preview "On Ringo Lake" mystery quilt by Bonnie Hunter (Quiltville)...then went back to check on the game...still not going good.

Then the second half of the game the Saints started happening!  I stayed put .... needed to finish quilting this baby quilt for "Mia Cate".

Quilting done on "Licorice Whip" (64" x 64",  Black Cat Creations)...ready for binding.  Then it was time to check on the Saints game....

OMG, my husband was beside himself.  The Saints were winning with only seconds left -- I sat down and tearfully watched as the Vikings made a touchdown and won the game.  I looked over at my husband and he was in a trance.  I scurried out as fast as I could before he came out of it.  Whew, just in time.  The Times Picayune headlines, "Expletive, Expletive, Expletive" about sums it up.

This morning, my son and husband went hunting -- those poor ducks!

On Ringo Lake, Licorice Whip, En Provence

On Ringo Lake -- Along with thousands of quilters, I have been working on my version of Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt.  I did not have a lot of the corals, but had plenty of reds, tans and grays.   All of my units are done, however making the blocks and sashing are being worked in between other projects.

Below is a baby quilt for a new little cousin in Katy, Texas, "Mia Cate" .... I went with one of my favorite patterns, "Licorice Whip", published by Black Cat Creations.  The 64" X 64" quilt is large enough for the baby to grow into.  All  basted and ready for quilting.

And...below is my completed Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt from last year, En Provence.  This one stayed on the back of my sewing room door for months waiting to be quilted!  Finished just in time to start the New Mystery.

Although very cold outside, the sun was shining which made it hard to see the quilting design -- just simple swirls.

Licorice Whip on the Design Wall

It still amazes me how fast this little quilt "Whips" up!  This makes #5 that I have made of Licorice Whip. (Black Cat Creations).   In less than a day, the blocks were done....when I return home from work tonight, I'll sew them together and load it up for quilting.  It may take me longer to think about the quilting design than to finish it....With just two colors, I will be changing thread.  Will do all of the red first, then go back to the top with the white.

As usual, I am working on a few quilts. Those with deadlines are slipped in here and there, while I take my time with others. Looking forward to seeing the others at the Monday Linkup with Judy at Patchwork Times

Licorice Whip for Baby Lucas

This is the fourth time I have used this pattern, and still cannot believe how fast it comes together.  I started on Friday evening after work by cutting the pieces -- all of them.  By Saturday afternoon, the top was done and Sunday it was quilted.  No pressure, just took my time and enjoyed the process.

The backing used was a bold zig zag bordered by the main gray color used.

Of course, I personalized the quilt with the baby's name, Lucas .... I love this part.

And...a close up of swirls.

Pattern Name: Licorice Whip
Designer: Jamie Elfert, for Black Cat Creations
Finished Size: 64" x 64"

As much as I love traditional quilting, I enjoy the Modern Movement just as much.  Today, I am linking up Megan and Heather at Quilt Story for Fabric Tuesday.

Friday Finish - Licorice Whip

Introducing Licorice Whip, designed through Black Cat Creations --   The quilt above finished at 96" square, and has already been gifted to a special young lady, Rachel.

The two quilts used on the cover below are on display at the Spring Market in Pittsburgh this weekend. My first "Modern" design.  The pattern comes with two versions:  two-color and three color.

I am so glad I can finally share this quilt, as it will become one of my favorite "Go To" designs for a quick and unique project. So easy, it can be made in a weekend -- really!

Let's head to Sarah's, Confessions of a Fabric Addict and join everyone's Friday Whoop Whoop Project!
