The first design wall of 2011! I sorta cheated this morning, because I keep a stash of strip blocks in various colors (made when the strip drawers start overflowing). I had 5 yellow blocks to start my January Monochromatic Challenge (hosted by Judy Laquidara at Patchwork Times). This helped since I am quilting tops. I have two designs in my head for this top, by next week I will decide and start adding more blocks for a baby size quilt.My strip drawers are kept by color, so when one drawer becomes hard to close, I make a few blocks (mini tutorial for mess free paper foundations). Below is another sample of how a few blocks of reds, greens and blues ended up being an 85 x 85 quilt. I added blacks and the two toned blocks as the "Card Trick" design evolved. The top is done, along with the pieced backing. My family and co-workers gave me gift certificates to our local quilt shop (The Quilting Niche'), so I will let Debbie's Long Arm take care of this one.

Yellow is going to be very bright and sunny.
You've done a great job of using a range of values in your blocks ... not that easy when using one color and yello, at that.
once again I'm lovin' your string quilts. And once again feeling an urge to sew some up myself!
Good idea to long arm this quilt since there are likely tons of seams in this baby! Love the corner blocks on your borders!
When I first started quilting I was told to keep the yellow in my quilts to a minimum because it would take over everything else. And that a yellow quilt would be horrible.
BOY were they wrong! I love yellow. In fact I started a chicken quilt years ago I really need to dig out.

I was wondering what you'd have on your design wall today and I wasn't disappointed. I love the border on the card trick quilt and the yellow strings are just what I needed today. I need to make some blocks with my too little to cut into anything else scrap bins. Enjoy your day.

Keeping your strips by color is a great idea. I always just throw them in together and have a huge mess to sort out :(
