Colorful wall

Both of the quilts are for my cousin Monica's grand daughters.  During a recent visit to New Orleans, we picked up several bright fat quarters to make them their own little quilts.

The two tops were easy to assemble once the HSTs were made --  several of the rows are sewn together and now I can't wait to start quilting them.

In the Blues

Surprised at all the lighter blues I had, I started cutting 3 1/2" strips and squares.  I kept making HSTs until running out of lights, so I added in a few beige scraps (trying not to cut into yardage or fat quarters).   My favorite, the blue dinosaurs.  When my son was 3 (he is 30 now), my grandmother gave me this fabric to make pajamas.  I have a picture with him, but I don't think he would like me showing him with dinosaur PJs.

I have been making the HSTs as "Leaders and Enders" (Bonnie Hunter fame) while putting together commissioned quilt tops.  The top came together very quickly when I realized how many squares and HSTs I had already done.  VERY scrappy indeed.

The blocks have already come down off the wall (each row labeled and ready to sew).  It will have to wait until later, as I have two chevron quilts and a red hearts quilt due in November.  Busy Busy.

The lighter blues chosen for this top are part of Angela's Rainbow challenge, SoScrappy, for September.  The border will eventually be added for a perfect sofa size quilt.

Design Wall and Finishes

Sparkle Punch is coming off the wall tonight, ready for assembly.  The colors were chosen from the weekly Rainbow Challenge, hosted by Angela at So Scrappy.

I finished the Red/Black/White "Samantha Claire" from a new pattern published by Black Cat Creations. More detail on the right side of the screen.

And, I finished quilting the little quilt above in time for delivery to a very sick friend.

I am linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for her Design Wall Monday, again so glad to have something this week.

A Big Finish - "Now What?"

                                               Now What?

Have you ever bought yardage that you absolutely love, but then it sits because you don't have a clue how to use it.  This pattern was designed out of necessity -- I have several 3 or more yardage cuts wasting away.  I played on the design wall and came up with this.

I do believe I will continue on this path -- designing around those special fabrics on the shelf.  I have assigned a number to 10 of them and will start pulling them at random -- only time will tell how many I will finish over the next year.

I am joining Sarah for her Whoop Whoop Party over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict -- see ya there!

Rainbow Challenge Update -- RED!

My favorite color has always been red...I assume this is why I don't have many red scraps.  Above are a few Sparkle Punch Stars, to add to my collection for the "So Scrappy 2013 Rainbow Challenge".  Last time, I played with all of the blocks randomly.  Below, I kept the colors together.  The bottom right is my blues, but they are in a shadow and look a little dark.

And since my "Samantha Claire" pattern has a batik red highlighted in the sea of black/white, I added the update before taking it off the wall.  It is a much smaller version, but it is easier to display.  I am about to go load her on the long-arm and get busy.  Below is the full size.

Sunday sewing

Above is a finished top of Aqua, Teal and Turquoise chevrons.  Although this is an easy pattern, I think I prefer the chevrons made with HSTs.  I have a wall full of them and will show them tomorrow when I have made enough rows. The quilt top is heading to the quilting frame so we can finish for a dear friend of my sister and I.  It will not take too long, as sis will do the hand work on the binding.

Continuing to work with my red scraps for So Scrappy's Rainbow Challenge.  I now have enough of these blocks to make two quilts.

Back to the sewing room....

Trunk Show Frenzy

Can you believe, I did not take a picture of the Trunk Show display.  The Trunk Show was held during a Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler Blog Hop and of course, I had a good time.  My quilts will be at the Quilting Niche' for a while longer, so I will run back over there this weekend to snap a few pictures.

Above is Now What? Here is how it looked before I took it down off the design wall. ----- In blues, greens, yellows.  A total contrast to the Black, gold and white of the original.

Then, I started working on "Samantha Claire" in a smaller version.  Red is my favorite color, so I have enjoyed making this one.  I have a sewing marathon this weekend of catching up, so I will be posing all weekend.

So glad I have something to post with Sarah today at Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Whoop Whoop!
