Quilting the "Indigo" Monochromatic

Woke up early this morning and started quilting the Indigo Top for Judy's Monochromatic Challenge (Patchwork Times) -- of course, it was the color for June. I am working on the white areas in the middle and will change the thread for the dark indigo. If I can finish quilting this top, I will start piecing again -- it has been awhile and I am missing it. I have one more deadline quilt for a Church Fair that I cannot wait to start on. The fabric is beautiful and the pattern in my head will be perfect.

Coffee is done -- back to quilting!

I like how you have a circle effect with the feathers going around the dark square. It is looking really pretty.

I love your feather quilting, Jamie! That's so pretty - I hope to get enough time soon to learn how to do that....

This looks very pretty! I have a question for you: I am starting to learn to machine quilt, for years I have quilted by hand and have decided to get the quilted portion done faster.
Okay here is my issue - I have tried to sandwich the quilt together and safety pin everything into place. My problem is when I start stitching either free motion or with a walking foot the material on the back will get puckers. What is the best technique to get everything stretched, base stitched (or pinned) and basically stay there while you are working the quilt through and around the machine?
Thanks for helping!
