Rainbow Design Wall and Mystery Update

The last of the 2013 Rainbow Challenge Blocks are on the wall.  Next was the audition of several fabrics for the sashing.  Funny, the ones I like the best, I did not have enough.  Then I remembered the left over fabric from the backing of another quilt -- Perfect -- and I even ended up with scraps.

Like the one done yesterday, I used 5 1/2" sashing and golden yellow corner stones.

Just in case a close up is needed -- see the butterflies, very girly indeed.

I am all caught up on the Mystery Steps, needing to move them to a larger basket.  Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Mystery is about to start taking shape and I want to be totally prepared.  There is a "Football" quilt on the quilting frame; the last 2013 Rainbow Challenge coming down off the design wall; and Rainbow log cabin top waiting in the wings to be quilted.

Can you tell, I am on vacation ..... Linking up with Judy's Design Wall at Patchwork Times and Bonnie Hunter's Step #5 of the Mystery Quilt.

Another Rainbow Challenge

For the 2013 Rainbow Challenge, I made 18 of these 16" blocks.  I pulled a Train Fabric from the stash and 9 of the blocks for this "boyish" quilt --- designated for a very special young boy due any day.  The hardest design was the cornerstones, which I auditioned several colors.  I ended up using a light print left over from one of the blocks.

The remaining blocks are very "girlish", so I will dig through the stash later and starting testing.  For other Rainbow Challenges, visit Angela at her SoScrappy Saturday check in.  Although we are in the last weekend, I am pushing to finish the above top and so I can put the last one on the design wall this afternoon!

Rainbow Challenge Finish

Well, almost finished.  I need to sew on the binding.  The weather is changing again, with hopes a little chill in the air will put me in the mood to sit and hand bind.  I really loved this pattern ..... so much that I will start another one for the 2014 Challenge using a different background.

Designer:  Elizabeth Hartman
Pattern Name:  Sparkle Punch
Published by:  Fons and Porter
When:  July/August 2012
Again, thanks to Angela at So Scrappy for challenging us to clean out the scraps.  If you follow her link, others are sharing their Rainbow Challenge. Can't wait until next year.

And since I have a Finish to share, also linking up with Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

Mystery Update

Half way through Step #3 HSTs, then I can start the pinwheels.  So cute  ---- tiny pink/yellow.  Thanks to Bonnie Hunter, Quiltville for this holiday diversion from panic and craziness.  Linking up with MANY others -- hard to believe there are so many of us out there.

On a side note, I am now working on a quilt for a special Marine hurt fighting for our freedom. He has a long journey of surgeries and physical therapy ahead of him.  We are praying for his safe trip home from Germany to Maryland, then hopefully home.  For a start, I am pulling fabric and cutting.

2013 Rainbow Challenge

Two finished tops are waiting to be loaded on the quilting frame.  This was a fun year knocking down the stacks of scrap boxes.  Many thanks to Angela at So Scrappy for her 2013 Rainbow Challenge.

I will be participating in 2014, because I am sure the scraps will continue to grow like rabbits through out the year.  Today, I will continue quilting tops so I can start working on Step 3 of Bonnie Hunter's Mystery.

School Pride Update

The second School Pride Top is on the wall.  The first is on the quilting frame....one to go.  I am soooo not an applique expert.  The Tigers took forever to cut out with tiny little scissors and careful turning.  I used Heat n Bond Lite (first time) and really like the softness after ironing.

The Friday link up at Sarah's Confession of a Fabric Addict is filling up.  So many are busy with Christmas projects....thank goodness I have the weekend for more sewing time.

School Pride / Mystery Update

Newest project on the design wall -- a quilt for my Great Nephew's school.  The colors are burgundy and white .... with a Tiger mascot in Silsbee Texas.  I pulled out a favorite pattern which will be a perfect school two-color quilt.  Although you cannot see the close-up of the white on white, it is from the "Quilt Across Texas" collection.  I bought 10 yards last month and ordered 5 more yards -- basic staple.

For Bonnie's 2013 Mystery, I am done with steps 1 and 2.  The perfect "leader and ender" project while I am working on the Christmas Projects.

Finished Hearts

The month of December is all about finishing all the projects going on.  Today, I am showing the "All Hearts" for School for Exceptional Children.

The School for Exceptional Children is a public school serving special needs children who do not attend their regular home-based school. Each year, they host an important fundraiser and reunion for the students, families, friends and staff.  On December 12th, the event will showcase the students singing classic holiday songs, Christmas photos, food, drinks, and a silent auction.

My goal is to have a finish every Friday in December.  Looking at the projects hanging next to the quilting machine, I am on a roll.

Linking up with Sarah at Confessions for a Fabric Addict today, be sure to check out the others.

One of the teachers is a good friend, so the above idea was born.  My design wall is in front of my long arm so while quilting, I can look up and stare.  I move around the little squares until a pattern evolves -- unfortunately, I did not earlier pictures when the dancing began.

The Mystery Begins!

Yep, I have a thousand projects going on, but I would never miss the Bonnie Mystery!  Like many others, I could hardly sleep Thursday night waiting on the first clue.  I am making the smaller quilt, because I just finished a large 96 x 96 quilt for a Christmas present.  My colors are green, yellow, pink and purples...with white on white background.  I'm done with step 1, so now I have to wait patiently for the next clue.

For a look at the others -- beware, there are lots of them -- visit Bonnie at Quiltville.
